We are a family run business based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Sharon, that’s me, manufactures the camera bean bags. Also there is Harvey our son, the I.T and web developer who keeps the website up and running. Dean (my husband) is in fact who came up with the idea and together with his expert photography knowledge is vital for all those tricky questions on camera sizes. Equally important is our daughter Emma, who along with Willow our Labrador, definitely keeps us all sane!
The idea originated in the autumn of 2006 after booking a once in a lifetime safari to Kenya. Straightaway Dean ‘placed a request’ for a Bean Bag Support for our journey. Tripods are quite bulky and add extra weight to the camera kit and would have basically been awkward to use from a moving Jeep! Dean described the type of support needed, not to mention the weight worries! Having produced a prototype and after a few adjustments bring made, the first of many camera bean bags was born.
On safari we had a wonderful time and in addition to seeing many animals up-close, had great photographic opportunities. Helped, without doubt by the use of the camera support, Deans’ photographs were amazing. The only issue we had was Dean and Harvey jostling for the best position in the van!
As soon as we returned, Dean suggested selling them on the World Wide Web. I laughed to start with but because I was a stay at home mum and able to work around the school runs then why not? Over the years the business has grown and as a result I have shipped to all regions of the UK and as far away as Sri Lanka and Australia.
The supports are available in 2 types of fabric. Non-Waterproof cotton drill and Waterproof 7oz weight fabric. Waterproof camera supports are ideal for river side photography, damp, misty mornings and for those braving more robust weather conditions. Easily wiped clean, the waterproof edition is great.
Fabric designs include traditional camouflage, a ‘RealTree’ print of oak leaves and plain colours.
Two interconnecting bags make up each camera bean bag support. They form an “H” section allowing the bags to rest over a car door, fence panel or platform such as in bird hides. Camera Bean Bags can also be used in a more conventional manner. They become a great bit of equipment in many scenarios. The bean bag supports give a stable area to protect your camera and enable a comfortable photography position. This can help with long sessions of photography therefore improving comfort as well as improving image quality. Camera Bean Bags are fantastic at eliminating camera shake which can improve the quality of pictures captured by a camera.
The Bean Bags come with an attached carrying strap that doubles as a bracing support and a strong Velcro and press stud fastener. A carabiner can be used to fasten the camera bean bag to your rucksack. As the camera supports are so light weight it makes it easy to carry them around. Whilst on safari or boat for example, a lanyard could be attached to the strap so as not to lose the support over board!
They come ready to use with light weight polystyrene balls and are available in three sizes:
All weights and dimensions are approximate and you can see these on the product pages.
The Standard Bean Bag will suit Compact/Bridge Cameras and most lenses up to 200mm.
Large bags for telephoto lenses 100-400mm.
Super-Size for super telephoto lenses.
Camera Bean Bags are fantastic at eliminating camera shake.
All three sizes are available in a variety of designs and colours. Made to measure camera supports can also be arranged. Just drop me an e-mail or telephone call with your request.
